General Information
Loan Rules
Circulation Policies

Privileges.  Library books may be check out of the Main Collection of the Library.  Reference books, videotapes, and journals, magazines, & newspapers are non-circulating items. Articles may however be photocopied for your use under "fair use" as defined in the Copyright Act of 1976 of the U.S. Copyright Law and Related Laws Contained in Title 17 of the United States Code.
*Please note: an entire journal, magazine or newspaper may not be photocopied!

Borrowing Limit: 5 items.  When you have found a book you would like to borrow, take it to the Librarian or the student worker on duty, and s/he will check the book out to you.  Some books have a CD or floppy disk that go with them; these count as separate items (i.e., four books and one CD would be your five allowed items).  If you have never checked out a book from our Library before, we will first need to create a Library user account, which should only take about two minutes.

Loan Period: the earlier of 3 weeks or the end of the quarter.  The date the item is to be returned is stamped on a reminder slip for you.
*Please note: all materials must be returned by the last Friday of classes of each quarter.

Overdues, Fines, Replacement Charges.  Library borrowers are responsible for returning materials by the due date.  If a book is damaged or lost, the borrower is liable for replacement cost of the book.  Borrowing privileges are blocked until the cost for replacement of the book has been paid.  If an item is overdue, borrowing privileges will be blocked until the item is returned.
*Overdue fines are 50¢ per day per item, up to the cost of replacing the item.

Responsibilities of Borrowers

Borrowers:
  • are responsible for materials checked out to them until the items are returned to the Library.
  • are prohibited from lending items checked out in their names to others.
  • are responsible for maintaining a current address on file with the College.
  • who abuse Library borrowing privileges may have these privileges suspended.
  • who fail to return materials or to pay Library fines may have said fines added to their student accounts or deducted from their wages.
Examples of privilege abuse:
  • repeated late return of materials
  • failure to pay overdue fines
  • failure to pay replacement costs
  • repeated damage or loss of Library materials
Borrowing privileges may be reinstated when the matter has been resolved through return of materials, payment of bills, and/or consultation with the Librarian.
