Locating Articles in the Library
Online Databases

Don't forget to go to the many online databases, which provide access to articles from journals, magazines, and newspapers. Some of these articles are provided in full-text, but others are not. The databases also act as a cumulative index to many of the journals/magazines available in the Library. Don't ignore this site; there is a lot of current information and news on careers, the job market, etc. COLLEGE ACCESS ONLY

  • Monster Trak
    A large database of searchable jobs, MonsterTrak is a site where you can also post your résumé.  See the "graduate résumés" part of Academy College's career services pages for instructions on how to do so.

  • Minnesota Workforce Center

  • Accounting: SmartPros
    This complete resource for accounting professionals includes news; selected full-text articles; a research library that features tax and financial listings from state, federal, and international institutions; and the Certified Public Accountant Link Directory. The Directory includes more than 100,000 U.S. accounting firms and is searchable by firm name, city, state, or industry focus. There are also accounting job postings, access to professional résumés, and more.

  • All Freelance
    Great one-stop site for freelancers. Main sections include how to start and run a home-based office, legal and contract forms and advice, budget and business planning, marketing and promotion tips, résumé writing, and links to articles on these subjects.

  • America's Job Bank
    This site provides access to jobs available by keyword or menu searching, and access to other web sites by public employment services in each state. It's a good site that has been published as a result of a partnership between the U.S. Department of Labor and the State-owned Public Employment Service. Job Seekers can post résumés, and Employers can post job listings in the nation's largest online labor exchange, and search résumés automatically to find the right people fast.

  • America's Career InfoNet
    Occupational information is provided at this site to assist you in your job search and provides information to increase your understanding of the current job market. This site also provides access to state profiles and links to additional resources.

  • Career Lab - Cover Letters
    Information on applying for different jobs and tips on writing cover letters, as well as other employment correspondence.

  • Career Magic
    Here you can find advice on writing résumés and cover letters, and information on the interview process.

  • College Grad Job Hunter
    This site is geared toward entry-level workers, and provides information on careers, résumé writing, interviews, salaries, and negotiations as well as job postings.

  • Creative Hotlist
    This site is a job search site for creative arts positions.

  • Damn Good Résumé Books
    Yana Parker, the author of the popular books on résumés, has provided this site with lots of information, including answers to more than 50 job search questions, identification of skills and talents, and solutions to typical résumé problems (such as gaps in work history).

  • Entertainment Careers
    This site is great for those who are interested in a career in multimedia and/or the entertainment industry. The site includes lists of companies and professional organizations, tips on how to prepare your résumé, and job-seeking strategies.

  • Fortune Lists
    Fortune 500, the Global 500, America's Most Admired Companies, World's Most Admired Companies, 100 Best Companies to Work For, 100 Fastest Growing Companies, and more can be found at this site.

    This site provides information about employers and employment opportunities in tech, health care, finance, retailing, marketing, software, telecommunications, and other career areas.

  • Hot Jobs.com
    Here you can do a quick job search, search for jobs available by career classification, post your résumé, or use the added feature: a salary calculator.

  • Job Hunter's Bible.com
    This site is a good place to start your job search. Mr. Bolles (author of the What Color Is Your Parachute? books) provides the job searcher with thought-provoking ideas and tips on the current market status, some interactive tests, advice on posting your résumé on the web, which are the best sites to utilize, and more.

  • Jobs.com
    Postings at this site are searchable by location or job category.  Locations are broken into regions (Midwest, New England, International...), states, or localities (Twin Cities, New York City, Seattle...).  You can also click through zip code to get to a listing of jobs within a 30 mile radius.

  • JobStar Central
    Go here to find links to salary tables and articles about salary negotiation, résumés and résumé writing.

  • Jobweb
    This site includes career news, the inside scoop on great employers, hot locations, current trends in the job market, internships possibilities, and more.

  • Occupational Outlook Handbook
    This is the online version of the reference book available in the Library.

  • The Riley Guide: Employment Opportunities and Job Resources on the Internet
    An excellent resource for using the internet for finding a job, this site contains introductions and links to job resources categorized by career fields, salary surveys, help with résumés, cover letters, etc.

  • The Society of Illustrators
    Exhibitions, traveling shows, career guidance, professional organizations, and information about the Museum of American Illustration are available at this site.

  • Star Tribune: Working
    This site provides current news in the job market. You can find company information, salary information and search for jobs in the Twin Cities area.

  • TrueCareers: Job Listings & Career Advice
    Everything you need is at this site; employers post jobs, you can post your résumé, read current news on employment and hot careers, and apply for positions posted.

  • Yahoo Careers
    This site includes information about companies; job alert; job searches by city, state, and keyword; search for a career by category; salary wizard; salary calculator; résumé tools; and more.
